Deep in the countryside of Northern France, surrounded by fields and orchards, lies a charming village called St. Fraimbault. Although small, St. Fraimbault is well known in the Normandy region for its beautiful floral displays and landscaping, which have earned it four stars and the designation of village fleuri. The municipality is dedicated to protecting and improving the beauty of St. Fraimbault, and every year it invests in the village’s green areas.
Mum and I fell in love with St. Fraimbault many years ago, when our family visited its annual summer fete for the first time. Every August 15th, the usually tranquil streets burst into life as stalls selling handmade wares and local delicacies pop up on every corner. As a child, I loved the outdoor games that are set up on the pavement, which include traditional fairground favourites like “catch the rat” alongside giant wooden Connect Four grids and football tables. It was also fun to take out the pedalos on the lake! For fans of historical heritage, village residents show how people used to handwash their clothes in a communal washing house, and churn Normandy milk into delicious fresh butter in front of your eyes. There is even a tractor and horse show – it is farmer country, after all.
St. Fraimbault is a wonderful place to spend the Summer. I feel very lucky that we have our own cottages in the village, which means we get to constantly return! When decorating the cottages, Mum was inspired by French country interiors and the local surroundings, which is why La Belle Maison and La Jolie Maison provide such a comfortable yet elegant home-from-home. We look forward to sharing the cottages, and St. Fraimbault, with our summer visitors.
