Hello from Jess

Hello! I’m Jess, and I am so happy to be working for BEAUTIFULcloth with my mum, Amanda. I have been watching enviously from the sidelines as my mum has studied SAORI weaving and started running her popular workshops, hoping to get involved somehow. Happily, she has asked me to help out with her blog and newsletters, so that she can concentrate on what she really loves (weaving). This works out nicely for me, as writing is what I really love!

I am studying Anthropology in London, but I have always been interested in textiles. Guess where that comes from… Since 2016, I have worked for Selvedge magazine, writing blog posts, visiting creative fairs all around the country, and helping out with textile workshops…and also doing a lot of data entry and proof-reading (we can’t have it all). I’ve also worked on UCL’s Anthropology journal, Anthropolitan, and I’m currently writing a children’s book.

What I love about the SAORI weaving philosophy is its emphasis on being in the moment. Living in London, I find it so easy to get sucked into the daily rush to get to classes on time, always thinking ahead to the next item on my to-do list. It’s important for me to achieve a sense of calm in my day-to-day life, and that’s what SAORI weaving offers. I also love the fact that “mistakes” are never seen as such – it’s a wonder-cure for the anxiety of perfectionism!

I’m looking forward to putting together beautiful and interesting content for the BEAUTIFULcloth blog, as Mum and I keep you updated with upcoming workshops, exhibitions, new SAORI products, and the textile world in general. If you have any blog-related questions, proposals for guest blog posts, recommendations or comments, feel free to email me at: jess@beautifulcloth.co.uk.

See you soon,

Jess
